Unite for Consent Campaign

For the Dublin Rape Crisis Center's (DRCC) 2022 Unite 4 Consent Campaign, I was honoured to be asked to create a custom artwork aimed at raising awareness and funds to support their vital services.

Recognizing the power of art to drive social change, I designed a limited edition illustrated print design embodying themes of kindness, consent, everyday activism, preventing harm, and healing trauma.

My piece was inspired by the symbol of Medusa, a figure reclaimed as a symbol of sexual assault survival. In many retellings of the Greek myth, Medusa was cursed with snakes for hair and eyes that turn men to stone after being raped by Poseidon in Athena's temple. This makes her story one of the oldest examples of victim-blaming in pop culture. Today, Medusa stands as a symbol of empowerment, resilience, and strength for survivors of sexual violence.

My artwork featured two Medusa figures uniting to heal, support, and uplift each other, symbolizing the collective effort needed to support survivors and promote consent.

This piece was sold through my online shop, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the DRCC. The campaign successfully sold 73 prints in the first two weeks of the campaign.

My social media posts about my design contribution achieved substantial engagement, garnering a total of 15,560 impressions. This online buzz was complemented by coverage on the Irish Independent News site, which you can read here: Feature in the Irish Independent, which further amplified the reach and impact of the #Unite4Consent campaign.

The #Unite4Consent campaign was an incredible opportunity to use art to educate and foster empathy, respect, and compassion. The DRCC's work in educating about consent and promoting understanding is crucial. I hope this campaign helped raise further awareness about consent, bringing people together to create a safer and more equitable future for everyone.
